first i must mention the denizens of the dev sewer, a secretive indie gamedev cabal infamous for hoarding the source of their mystical dev magic, an ancient hex-imbued cabochon called Gilnuprath, and a gamer supergroup i am personally responsible for goading into several gamejams. please check out some of their websites or they will not accrue enough ad money to pay rent:

wabbaboy

slugsoft

goetworks

j4nw

heinn

grug

outside the sewer i am known to convene with the dev zone, an overworld-based gamedev militia unit located in the unincorporated greater gamedev steppe, of which some high-ranking officers are listed:

sirmilkman

sarn

sneil

feverdream johnny

goba

lazrick

drurylain

karbonic

additionally here are some unafilliated wizards whose magic i endorse:

wifi retina

favs

TODO: enjoy things

games:

i can’t talk about my favorite games without bringing up Super Smash Bros. Melee. no other game has the sauce like this one. while developments in the metagame have rendered much of my playstyle obsolete, i think this is perhaps the ultimate game for trying cool stuff and seeing what happens. but maybe that is because i have played it for dozens of thousands of hours.

i also really like Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup, an unbelievably good old-school tactical roguelike. still in active development after , DCSS is one of if not the best in the format. the game is relatively accessible (thanks to years of effort on this front) and fully playable without a wiki (though it helps) and, despite some crust, remains one of the most engaging strategy games ever made. it’s also free and open-source. the devs’ writeup on their design philosophy is very useful and inspiring as a game developer.

Nuclear Throne is pretty much what every indie dev should aspire to, realistically. it’s just an all-around excellent game that scores huge points in every category. it’s immensely cathartic, low-commitment and highly rewards player skill. like the prior two games mentioned i have dumped embarrassing amounts of time into this one.

otherwise, generally speaking i’ve always enjoyed fighting games (though i am miserably bad at them, even Melee). what i love most about them is the spectacle. i tend to gravitate toward anime fighters like ggac+r, mbaacc and bbcf for that reason.

music:

i really mostly listen to electronic music, and my favorites are mainly on the experimental and analog side of things, like Aphex Twin, SFV Acid, and Cylob. I also like chiptune artists such as RRThiel and kfaraday. not much more to say about this, who talks about music when you could just listen???

tas

i sometimes make tool-assisted speedruuuhhh superplays? playarounds? i am not sure what they are called, but i’m not really interested in the speedrun part. i care more about making something that looks baller. TAS is also the basis of the design for my fighting game, Your Only Move Is HUSTLE.

youtube embeds are getting blocked on my website for some reason, so click on this gif of yoshi to enter a playlist of my tas videos:

mainly what i have TAS’d is a little known game called super smash brothers. melee for the nintendo gamecube. i’ve played with other games but haven’t published anything with them.

bots

i like to make chatbots and other little internet machines. listed are some of them, organized by platform:

Bluesky

Your New Name periodically posts a procedurally-generated name. i’ve been working on this for a few years, mainly adjusting and weighing which input corpuses are used. the name generator i wrote for it was one of my first Rust projects and can output millions of names in seconds.

Discord

hmmmmmm bot is an agent of chaos whose featureset includes being annoying on purpose, automatic nickname assignment using the previously mentioned technology (plus some extra perks), tarot readings, and ranking your posts based on how many times you said iphone.

Wisdom of the Guild is a simple chatbot for anonymously archiving and retrieving posts within a server, inspired by the DCSS knowledge bot.
